May was a fun month for us!
Here are some highlights:
Surprise Party
We threw a surprise birthday party for my older brother. It was his first surprise party ever and he was definitely surprised.
| The spread at the party. |
| Bobby at his party. |
| Our nephew, Jack, being cute. |
| We went to the temple for Bobby's birthday to do work for the dead. I was baptized for my great Grandpa Joseph Malizia, who I'm named after, and I baptized Angela for his wife, Emma. |
| Outside the temple with the fam. |
| Bobby wanted to see a movie at this fancy movie theater. Leather recliners and servers that take your order. It was pretty awesome. |
| Angela looking hot in a new hat she bought. |
The Big Apple
It's not every day that you get to go on a sudden trip to NYC, so when Angela's work sent her on a sudden business trip, we took advantage of it. We bought a plane ticket for me (because I wouldn't fit in her carry on) and for a few hundred bucks we had a nice surprise vacation.
| Central park |
| The "best" pizza place in NYC. Those are paper plates all over the ceiling. The pizza was okay. |
| Dessert on a cool, New York night. |
| Right outside our hotel on the first night, it was a pretty sketchy neighborhood. We stayed in a much nicer hotel for the rest of the trip. |
| The Museum of Natural History (or something). We didn't go in, but the outside looked historic. |
| Back at Central park |
| On top of a castle in Central Park. Isn't the few lovely? The New York skyline ain't bad either (get it? I called Angela lovely) |
| The World Trade Center Memorial. We were there two days before President Obama came for the dedication ceremony. |
| This was the only tree standing at ground zero. It didn't have any leaves or anything, but has since regrown. |
| This is actually the best pizza in NYC. Grimaldi's Pizza. Delicioso! |
| When Angela was working at the beverage thingy, I went to the New York Public Library for a few hours to write. |
| The original set of toys that inspired the stories of Winnie the Pooh. |
| A copy of the Gutenberg Bible. |
| The outside of the library. |
| Us in front of the Shake Shack. The burgers were AWESOME!! We ate here twice. |
| A "Candy Bar," they had a crazy assortment of sweets and stuff. |
| Angela enjoying frozen hot chocolate. |
| They even had candy in the stairs!! |
| I was disappointed to find out this donut was just a pillow. |
| S'Mac! A great macaroni and cheese place. We got the sampler, which had 8 different kinds of mac and cheese. |
| We went to Angela's mission area in Harlem. This is the church building she went to when we was walking the streets of New York. (not that kind of street walking) |
| Great hot dogs and lemonade here. |
| A bit of heaven in the middle of a dirty place. |
| We got rush tickets for Pippin. Neither of us had seen it before, but we enjoyed it. |
| A trip to New York wouldn't be complete without a picture at Times Square! |
| This is the line for "cronuts." The line starts at like 7 in the morning. We got there at 9 and they ran out before we were able to get some. =( But sleeping in was nice. |
| High Line Park. It's an old railway that they turned into a pretty cool park that weaves through buildings and over streets. |
Camping
We also went on a little camping trip with some friends to Caspers Wilderness Park in Southern OC.
| Playing "corn hole" with some of our friends. |
| We went on a hike in the morning through the California hills. A great way to prepare for trek. |
What's Next
We are glad we had a lot of fun in May, because the summer months will be bringing some busy times for us. I start Grad school and Angela has a few different plant trials that will keep her at work a lot.
Until next time. Peace out.
